Medical Marijuana laws by state

Medical Marijuana laws vary from state to state but as of this writing, 23 states and Washington D.C. have enacted laws allowing patients legal protection. The proposed CARERS act (http://goo.gl/cfHznn) introduced to the Senate in early March would hand the decision making process from the Federal to the State level. During the upcoming election cycle, 13 more states will be deciding on proposed legislation.

Not all 23 states have functionally operating programs. Despite a majority vote, there are still pockets of resistance in states with established programs. Washington state as the example, passed recreational laws in 2012. However, resistance includes local bans or moratoria in 40% of the WSLCB's 120 retail jurisdictions. Roughly 100 out of 334 allotted retail slots are open, with about 125 currently approved.

Some states have a CBD (Cannabidiol) only law, as seen in the above map. CBD has been the primary focus of Medical Marijuana research lately. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound (doesn't make you high) found in Medical Marijuana and has shown a great deal of promise and hope for Seniors and children with seizure disorders and other ailments.

When it comes to the fight for legalization, few have been around as long or worked as hard as NORML. NORML's mission is to move public opinion sufficiently to legalize the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and to serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high quality marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable.

They have compiled an excellent list of the laws, state by state. If you see your state mentioned above in the map, you can use this link - http://norml.org/legal/medical-marijuana-2 to get the run-down on your states Medical Marijuana laws.
